Attendance
If your child will be absent or late to school, please always email our attendance office at kms_attendance@dublinschools.net.
Include your child’s name, grade, and reason for absence.
Without written notification of an absence, the absence will be unexcused.
If you are unable to send an email, you may call our attendance line at 614-718-8511 to leave a voicemail - please spell your child’s first and last name. If you call our attendance line and leave a message, the absence will be unexcused - as written notification is always required.
Please note the following limitations on illnesses and medical visits that do not have a medical note from the physician’s office:
A medically excused absence occurs any time a student is out of school due to illness or medical visit (physician, dentist, mental health, etc.). A medical excuse for personal illness will be accepted in the form of doctor’s note within five (5) school days of the absence or parent call-in on the day of the absence due to illness or doctor’s visit. A student may have up to ten (10) medically excused absences without a doctor’s note, but with a phone call from a parent/guardian. This policy will be extended beyond ten (10) days if the student or someone in the student’s family is in quarantine due to recognized pandemic/epidemic (e.g., COVID-19) or experiencing symptoms of the pandemic/epidemic.
Leaving School During The Day:
If possible, please notify us in advance for any early student dismissals. You can email the attendance office at kms_attendance@dublinschools.net. Alternatively, your child could bring a note to the attendance office on their way into school. They will be given an early dismissal pass which will allow them to leave their class 5 minutes before you are due to arrive. This process allows for minimal classroom and teacher disruption. Additionally, this allows your child to be ready and waiting for you at the office when you arrive.
Pre-Arranged Absence:
If your child will have an extended absence during the school year (2+ consecutive days), a Pre-Arranged Absence form must be completed and on file in the office three days prior to the leave. A form can be picked up in the office, or downloaded at the link below. If your child will be out of town for travel, sports tournaments, family events, etc., these will always be unexcused absences.
Pre-arranged does not mean the absence is excused.
For a list of absences that are excused, please review the Middle School Student Handbook.
